JCW JCW Stage 1 Air box / Amsoil replacement filter for R56

JCW Stage 1 Air box / Amsoil replacement filter for R56
This is more of a "general" question, but being that it deals with the JCW stage 1 air box, I thought this would be appropriate...
So along with many others with the Stage 1 air box, finding that the JCW replacement cone filter is restrictive and ultimately a one time use deal...I opted for an Amsoil dry reusable filter (EeAU3570). Being that this is pretty much a replacement filter and will be going inside the JCW box, would the optional pre-filter still be needed/recommended? My understanding is that pre-filters are mainly for "exposed" CAIs...
