R56 fender flares

Hey guys i recently made a mistake in tire size for my new wheels. I have searched everywhere for wide fender flairs on here and google. I apologize if this question has come up. Does anyone know where to get some? Or a full widebody kit Or does anyone have a DIY writeup on how to make some? I have a 2012 mcs.

Not sure how much material is left on the mounting pad, but you could investigate machining 5 to 10mm off to get them to sit flush?

hmm... possibility... was thinking along the lings of using the pinch weld in the wheel well to push the plastic out so that the weld and the fender clear??

I am working on prototype CF fender flares as we speak. I'm hoping to have at least one flare ready as a teaser in time for MOTD. Unfortunately, I can't really estimate how long until they'd be available for production. Obviously that doesn't help your current situation :D

palax - ...those wheels are sweet! ...tires just too big = rubbing.

metal and plastic can be trimmed, ...and pushing the metal out can maybe get the plastic part of fender to push out a little bit...but push for a bit too much...and it'll break the plastic clips. (I found out the hard way)

from what you have...I don't think combo of trimming/bending/pushing is gonna fix rubbing

the right size tire will...(and look better too)

unfortunatly im mad at myself for tire choice. however im not a huge fan of stretched look on tires which is why i chose the tires i did. which is why im trying to find as many other avenues that could fix my issue before i go stretched...

We'll see how the prototype turns out and how it does in 'testing', but it will probably be a while.

They are actually +20. Im running 235/45. Im going to order 215/40's tom and should be about an 1" less of tire so hopefully no more rub. But i still would love to see a widebody for r56's

No need to lower ur Mini now
What size of rims is this ? def I would go with a better tire size that trying to do a modify fender flares, however I can read you like the wide factor, why not

They are 17x8.5 really 9.5" tho. With 235/45/17. I found a local BMW race comp company that is interested in doing some r&d as to a wide kit

Im sure youve figured it out but how much cutting back on that pinch weld are you plannning. Cause ive realized i can do all i want to the plastic but its the well that is the issue. And like someone said its hard to role without compramize on the plastic tabs

I haven't nailed that down, yet. There will have to be some testing done with wheels that are actually wider than that sheetmetal, suspension that has enough travel and/or is low enough to allow the wheels to hit the sheetmetal, etc.

Do your wheels hit the plastic, now?

In less than a week they wore through the plastic and now hit the metal i ended up taking them off. I have a 1.2" drop with nm eng. springs. And 235/45 tires. In my own estimations if i were to cut 1/2"-1" up on the metal i would clear they hardly hit the metal if you are from the north east id gladly take a ride out with the wheels n u can set them up on your prototype

Thanks for the info... and the offer. I'm in FL, so I'll have to come up with some other idea. Maybe I can find a set of used rims/tires (maybe for a different car... Miata? Cobalt?) that have the offset I need to test it.

BTW, are you rubbing in turns? Bumps?

Look for a set of rota grid offroads. I believe they come in a 17x9 +10 (or+20 not sure. But should be around same specs n u can pick em up cheap. Miatas n lancers n subarus run them a ton. They would rub when i accelerate hard. Turn hard and hit uneven spots in roads. I only hit metal when i really slammed a pothole hard or a combo of turning and hitting a bump. Most was just plastic rub. Any info you need let me know. Glad to lend a hand

Good suggestion... I'll definitely keep an eye out for some wheels to test with.

Good to know that you're not bouncing off of the metal all the time. Obviously, I can't test EVERY setup there is, so some people will need to cut more or less than others, but the more info the better, so thanks!

The prototype arch is nearly done. I'll need to trim the excess carbon fiber, but it's close. It's very rough... definitely not a show piece, but it's a prototype and should work for basic testing and for testing the waters for the amount of interest for production.
