tpms question
tpms question
Might be a stupid question but are there any complications on mounting a set of tpms equipped wheels to replace my non-rpms wheels? Would all the software/sensors/indicators work fine on my canadian mcs?
Gen1 cars count tire rpms to determine if a tire has gone flat...hense no sensors.
Later cars/rims are equipped with in tire sensors and radio transmitters that are monitored by the car...
Putting tppms rims sensors on a car without the reciever is fine...heck, yank the sensors and install new valvestems, and sell the sensors...might almost pay for the rims if you got a deal.
so if you are asking if the new tppms rims will work on an older mini with the older non sensor rpm based system, yes. I am not sure of the changeover date, but in the us, it is generally gen1.gen2 split, except for a few cabrio's that got tppms sensors due to goverment regulations.

Exactly what Zippy said.
I used to have 2nd gen Crown Spokes on my car (without the sensors). Even though they use a larger stud, they worked fine. And x2 on selling the sensors, except that you may have to have the wheels rebalanced afterwards, so it might not be worth the time.

My 07-S arrived at the dealer in Orlando after a very short ride from the Jax'ville delivery site the third week of Aug 2007. It did not yet have the "new" TPMS with sensors .... but some other cars on the same truck did .... suggesting a pretty close window for the change over.
