R56 Engine Malfunction after Air filter change?!!!
Engine Malfunction after Air filter change?!!!
I am a novice when it comes to DIY with car. I figured how hard would it be to change the air filter all I had to do was remove 4 bolts.
I drive an 2008 R56 Hatchback Cooper 1.4 N12. The only thing I didn't do was remove the bolt from pipe. I slightly flex it up and removed the old air filter and wipe the area clean. I know I did not OVER flex the wires!!!!
I put in the new filter and put back the bolts. I started up my engine and the engine malfunction sign pop up!!!!!!
I am freaking out here someone please help!

Relax; breath. Reopen the hood, and make sure all electrical connections are tight, and the airbox is installed correctly.
If everything is put back together correctly, and the Check Engine Light (CEL) [assuming that's the 'engine malfunction' light you're referring to] is still on, head over to a AutoZone.
Scan the car with a OBDII diagnostic reader, and record the code(s) and clear out.

Thank you Erik! That is extremely helpful and I will do that tomorrow morning. I had a freak out moment didn't mean to come off like an loose end. lol
Yes, I am referring to the Check engine light (the symbol of the engine). Oddly, I did an second test and turn on the engine and drove than the indicator light went away...If there was an issue I assumed the CEL would remained lit even when ignition is on?
When you say clear out do you mean reset? Thank you! I love mini community they're extremely helpful.
