R60 Dealer Recommendation in New Jersey
Dealer Recommendation in New Jersey
I wanted to share the positive experience we had over the last few days ordering a new CMSA4 at Mini of Monmouth. We’ve owned an ’03 MCS for the last 9 years, know numerous other Mini owners, and so have a pretty good idea of the reputation of each one of the dealers within the greater New York City metro area. Fortunately the number of dealers creates a level of competition, and as it is often said, competition is good.
Mini of Monmouth is not the closest dealership to our house, and our initial contact with them was over the internet through a site called truecar.com. We knew the exact configuration of the car we wanted, and we knew that given the unusual combination of options we would never find it in stock, and that it would need to be factory ordered.
Christian Russell, the MA we worked with, promptly gave us with an initial quote of $1350 off MSRP. We eventually agreed upon a discount in excess of $2000, although we did agree to pay their $249 doc fee. I believe that’s a reasonable price that allows for a reasonable dealer markup given current market conditions, although keep in mind that they were able to agree to the discount because we ordered a heavily optioned car with an MSRP in the $35,000 range. They also agreed that we could stipulate in the contract that we would not have to take delivery prior to June 1st, insuring that we would have enough time to attend Test Drive Take Down and receive the $750 coupon before taking delivery.
We were able to order the car over the phone/internet without wasting time driving to their location, about an hour away. There were a couple of minor slip ups with the paperwork, but other than that we would definitely recommend this dealership for their compettitive pricing, as well as Christian for his no nonsense style.
One funny story I have to mention was the salesperson at another dealer who claimed “we don’t offer discounts because Mini is a premium vehicle, there is no markup, and therefore no room to negotiate prices. Huh? Was she trying to claim that her dealership makes no profit on the cars they sell? And this was at a dealer whose internet site claims they will beat any price!
