Visiting AZ....Havasu Falls??

I was wondering if any of you guys had any advice for me. I'm in Missouri, and I'm thinking about taking a vacation to AZ this May with my GF. We're thinking about doing a week long backpacking/hiking trip in AZ...hitting several different areas.

One of the areas she wants to check out is Havasu Falls. I know that you have to go on the Indian reservation to get them. I've heard some bad stories about the reservations.....should I be concerned about safety while out in that area?

Any info would be great!!

If you're driving from MO, I would consider stopping earlier on I40 at Painted Desert, and Petrified Forest parks. They offer great hiking and beautiful vistas. It's also probably 5 or so hours closer to you.

I'm actually flying into Mesa...then driving up North through Flagstaff, and then to Havasu Falls.

My main concern is safety on the reservation....heard lots of stories that make me a little worried about camping out in that area.

I really don't think you have to worry about Havasu Falls. It is very popular and the Havasupai really don't want there to be any trouble. Many people hike the Canyon and visit the falls every year. My nephew is one of the rafting guides on the river and his family hikes it every year.
