Headlight compatibility and retrofit for 2011 MCS

I am going to build some new projector retrofit headlights for my new '11 MCS. I have a crazy work schedule so I am going to have to purchase a spare set of housings to work on.

I found these:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/220894609812...ht_2042wt_1141

Will they fit my 2011?

Also, is there anything I should know about before I put a HID system in my cooper? Will using a relay harness mess with the vehicle's computers and give me bulb out warnings?

I am guessing that the Mini headlights are the same as most other ones in that they must be baked to remove the lens. Is this correct?

Planned parts list:
FX-R 1.1 Projectors
Morimoto 55W Ballasts
Morimoto 55W 5000K Bulbs
MC-R Shrouds
Relay Harness

Thanks for the advice!

Well that link has been taken down so i cant tell you if they will fit or not.

Yes the MINI lights have to be baked to get them apart.

You may want to search the forums and read about the problems people have had with wiring and adding HID's to cars with the Halogen head lights. There is many threads here on the subject.

FX Projectors are pretty large for a MINI halogen headlight. I got the Morimoto D2S and they were snug, lots of shroud still needed to be cut. I would recommend the H1 projectors as they are the smallest. Also 35w is plenty of light, 55w HIDs will just be asking for people to flash you.

I got no bulb-outs with my system and the highbeam works as intended. It was pretty plug and play plus some dremeling.

Sorry, link has been fixed.

I was wondering if they'd be too large. I put them in my last vehicle and they were really tight. I just love the cutoff. I also retrofitted a set of the Mini D2S into foglights and they were alright but I wouldn't want to make them my main headlights. Just nothing real special about them that I could see. They have a sharp cutoff but almost zero flare.

I was hoping that I could extend the projector out of the rear of the headlight housing since there's quite a bit of extra space behind the headlights. Do you know of anything that would prevent the projectors from sticking out of the rear of the housing?

I was using 55W in my last vehicle and they are noticeably brighter than 35W. The point of a projector is to prevent blinding people. If people are flashing you, you're either going up a hill towards them or the projectors are not aimed correctly.

Yetti, did you retrofit into a Mini with xenons or halogens?

Thanks for the info!

I had halogens and put the projectors and HIDs in. I was just saying the 55w is not necessary, the 35w was plenty sufficient. With the stiff suspension a few decently bumpy roads, even properly aimed lights will annoy others.

There is a bit of room to to towards the back but what you don't realize is how little room there is vertically in there. I will work on getting some pictures today for you.

Ahh, gotcha.

You're right I'm not really thinking of vertical clearance. From what I can remember from using the FX-R before, they weren't insanely tall. Looks like they're 1/2" taller than the Minis.

Did you install the HIDs with a relay harness or just straight into the car's wiring? If the former, did you get any bulb warnings?
