Cross coilovers: Spring rate(s)?

So I keep coming across posts stating that you get a choice of spring rate when you order Cross coilovers, yet every retailer I see selling them for the MINI lists a specific spring rate and doesn't seem to have facility for changing that. I like their product, but I'd ideally like a more balanced front-rear spring rate split, and maybe something a little more compliant for the frost-heave hell that opens up around here in the winter. I know I could always just buy my own springs for them, but they're awful pricey already...

I know there are a lot of other coilover setups out there that come with more street oriented spring rates - but I absolutely must have linear rate springs, and since M7 is apparently not selling coilovers anymore, the Crosses are really the only choice.

Why not buy a set of KW variant 2's (V2) and convert them over to a linear spring set-up?
I'm planning on doing the same by March 2012...

Or buy WayMotorWorks spec'ed KW V2's with linear springs and tenders.

Huh, I hadn't considered that - I sorta figured they were all the standard progressive rate junk. Kinda digging the double-adjust V3's w/ TSW spec springs - Anybody know that the front / rear rates are?

The thing is...you can get whatever you want with the TSW KW's. Just call Way and tell him. Most of them are custom from what I can tell.

+1 for KW or AST over Cross. I never liked Cross.

For a more budget oriented solution, you may want to look into BC Racing w/Swift springs.

WayMotorWorks quoted me a set that were 350 lbs/in both front and rear for a JCW Clubman.

Give up on the CROSS, they are not available. And if they were I wouldn't buy them until they have a real production set up and can supply replacement parts. Cross went bankrupt and now there is a US Cross, but they don't have anything and been telling us it will be a couple months for almost 2yrs now.

Just get our TSW KW setup they rock.

Good point. What kind of spring options do you have with the V3's, and maybe KW's in general? Are they all the same, or can we spec a certain rate like andyroo has suggested?

We can do the standard KW V3's or we offer our TSW spec V3's. I suggest the TSW spec they were tested by TSW and make an ideal setup. If you need something for straight track use that is really stiff we'll get you a clubsport setup, but the price jumps pretty good.

The TSW-spec unit looks like it uses 60mm springs front and rear? In other words, it would be fairly easy to swap out the springs for different rates if I wanted to play with it a bit, assuming I stayed within a reasonable range for the dampers?
