Considering a 2009 MCS, need specifics on what is done at service intervals..

So, my girlfriend is likely buying a cooper S soon, used. Actually, CPO. So, the one we are looking at specifically has 15k on the clock. We are considering buying the $2000 maint for 4 years/48k (roughly), but I want to know what service is done at each interval so we can see if its worth the $2000 cost. I have found that the big services are done at about 30k and 50k miles, but I cant find any info on what is actually worked on at each interval. If the 30k and 50k maintenance costs are only 500 bucks a pop, obviously the $2000 maintenance contract isn't worth it. BUT if they're $1200 each, its worth the cost. SO, does anyone know?

As far as I can tell the 30k and 50k mile service intervals are more of a checkup rather than service unless something is due at the time like any of the following.

brakes
engine oil/filter
air filter (every other oil change)
cabin filter (every brake fluid flush)
brake fluid
wipers (once a year)
and complimentary car wash for each service (I always opt out of that)

All the fluids and brakes are dependent of when the computer in the car says they are due.

I had the 30k service (aka checkup) a little before 30k miles and all they did was give the car a white glove treatment. By the way, nothing was found during the checkup.

You can find a ton of information in the forums about whether it's worth it or not...depends on whether you like to turn a wrench and what type of mileage and type of driving the car will have.

Some people have been able to get the maintenance contracts reduced in price a tad as well.

In my own opinion the only worth wild thing would be the brake servicing. However I'm on the original pads and it looks like I should make it to 45k miles before needing replacements so it wouldn't be worth it for me. You may want to consider the extended warranty though IF it didn't come with it.

You can find the maintenance schedule on the MINI website or Google it. Mostly it's a list of "check this" and "check that" and an oil change. These are all things you can get done much cheaper at an independent shop that specializes in BMW's and MINI's. I would save the $2,000 or put it towards an extended warranty rather than the maintenance. The warranty covers big ticket items that you might not be able to afford if and when they happen.

IMO the extended maintenance (out to 100k miles from 36k miles) is only worth it if you have a manual tranny. The clutch is covered as a wear and tear item and can be replaced under that plan.

Oil changes are about $100 at a dealer, brakes are about $600 an axle, wipers, fluid flushes...these can be done for cheaper and on your own fairly easily.

I think were going to pass on it. Its a 'next' vehicle so its got the extended warranty built in for 6/100k. I am pretty lazy at this point with car work, but I have done a few caliper/rotor/pad swaps in my day so if need be we can save the money there. Thanks guys.
