Removing the fuel filler surround piece

Does anyone know how to remove the painted part that surrounds the fuel filler area? Thanks

The 'insert' (#8) for the 'cover pot' (#7) appears to snap in.
There's no required hardware to hold the piece to the body.

It just pops out. I had mine out the other day and used a plastic wedge to work it out.

It's held on by 2 clips at roughly the 2 o'clock and 4 o'clock position. Lift up your chrome cap and peer in with a flashlight and you should be able to see them. The safest way to remove the cover is to make a little tool out of a 1/2" wide piece of sheet metal bent at the end to form a hook. Slide the hook under the clip and pull the tab inboard to release the clips. Then you can rotate the cover outboard and pull it reward to remove it from the fender. Alternatively, you can pull the cover outward at the back and hope that the clips release but they're a little fragile and they may break. Don't ask how I know! Good luck.

one of the free paint can openers I get from Home Depot works perfectly ... actually I use one per tab . . . the kind that also work as a bottle opener!
