How is that plastic piece attached to the top of the shifter right inside the shift ****? I wanna shorten my shifter, but not sure how much. I have a new shift knod that I really like but it is wayyyyy too tall now, but extremely easy to shift now. Anyone know if it's glued on or what?

It's injection-molded onto the lever.
You'd have to destroy it to remove it, I'm afraid.

you could always lop off the top of the shift lever and mount a **** that installs with a set screw.
