Tire slipping crazy when breaking and...

I have 2011 Cooper S and noticed that my tire/steering slipping a lot when I break moderately/hard. I also notice a lot of slipping when hitting bumps or unevent roads.

Is this normal? What's causing this?

It could be a lot of things. First of all how miles do you have on the tires. If they are new make sure to work them in so as the rubber reaches optimum grip. Another thing could be if it hasn't rained in your area that the road could be dirty/oily. This is what I notice here in Greece. Another thing is of course the run-flat tires I found significantly more grip non-runflats than runflats (maybe its just me though). As for even surfaces, I to notice that and I believe it to be normal.

You really need to think about your question...

You don't give any real useful information. Where do you live and drive? What's the temperature? What size and brand of wheels and tires? Is it the ABS that you think is not working?

Please be more specific.

Not sure what you mean by slipping but am guessing that you are hearing/feeling the ABS being activated which would be normal.
Also the DSC can activate the ABS to prevent a wheel spin when accelerating in a corner too fast or on wet slippery pavement, paint stripes etc.

Check your tire pressure. Over-inflated run-flat tires may cause this behaviour. Run-flats also have a habit of causing bump steer and tend to skip over bumps when cornering for example. It shouldn't be too extreme though. One of many reasons why my JCW will not have run-flats.

You can always to a test drive with a MINI technician if you think it is warranty related.

How do you know it's slipping?
