Are the leather seats a must have or is the leatherette "good enough"?

 

Leather seats are junk. Get the pleather and give me half the difference for saving you the hassle :smile: i've had my lapis blue leather seats repalced under warranty and now they look like crap again.

People keep thinking my leatherette seats are leather. I don't know why cause they don't look like real leather to me. No way I'd pay $1300 for the crappy MINI leather.

Have yet to hear anything good about the leather seats in a min-car. Most people
regret the option. I have leatherette and everyone who sees my car comment how
nice my beautiful LEATHER seats are! Go for the leatherette...save the $$$$ for mods...

 

A friend of mine absolutely love the leather in his MINI. He thinks it's softer than the leather in his M5.

If you're uncertain about the leather, go with the leatheratte. When you decide to upgrade, there are always aftermarket options (Katzkin or Classic Soft Trim). The price ranges from around $650 for DIY to $1000+ installed. Best of all, you have more color choices and definitely cheaper than $1300 factory option. :smile:

 

The leatherette is also really durable. My 2 and 4 year olds are constantly climbing all over my seats in muddy boots, but no worries - they clean up beautifully. I've put 30k on my driver's seat and it looks like new. Don't think the cloth will hold up as well long term.

 

The leather in the MINI is too soft and thin it seems thats why under use it wears out really easily... Other leathers seem thicker and a bit rougher... I must agree the quality of the leather in the MINI isnt as up to par as other BMWs but I LOVE my Lapis Blue leather... almost a year and its still in perfect condition... but I do take extra care for it. make sure I get in nice and easy and I condition it every few months with Zaino Bros' Leather in a bottle to keep it conditioned.

Hahaha davecsumini whos your friend that thinks the leather is better in the MINI than the M5? he must have the sports seat... no way the luxury interior seats are worse off than the MINI.
