Polisher purchase or not?
Polisher purchase or not?
I would like some opinions from both sides here. I am considering buying a PC polisher to first get the swirls out from the previous owners care. I assume I would then only use it 2-3 times a year after that? I have called the best local detailer and they charge $250 for exterior job which would include wash, clay, swirl removal, wax and sealant.
I do like cleaning my car, but have never operated a polisher.

If you like doing the work yourself buy the PC. (I did.
)
Most shops will not do the quality of work you can do. There are some very good shops who do detail work, but the majority just want to get you in and out.
Buy Richard's video on how to polish a car and you should be good. It is very easy to use and you may find yourself doing more because the work is so much easier with a PC.

A polisher allows you to fix things on your car and your friends car, or spouse's of family's car....things like light scratches, etc..
It makes polishing the paint possible as well as waxing it.
$250 is a fair price but how well they remove the swirls is the question. Also the method of swirl removal is important. Many detailers will use far too aggressive means to remove swirls. By learning how to use the PC, you can learn to take care of your paint for the life of your car.
Like Thulchatt mentioned, using a polisher isn't difficult. They come in many different forms, but the PC is the simplest and easiest to use and you can master it in minutes under the right guidance.
I made a 2.5 hr video on using the PC that has been called the "bible" for learning to use the PC.
You might even want to just get the DVD first and see if that is something you want to learn before getting the PC. We go in depth on polishing a single car using the PC.

If you like to take care of your paint yourself, get a PC. I've taken care of my MINI since new and it is still pristine, but the most satisfying is to work on a paint that has been neglected. It is amazing what a PC can do.
