R50/53 skid plate saves the day
Today while driving I-35 a big chunk of solid ice falls off from under the bottom of a 18 wheeler. I had traffic on both sides of the MINI so I could not just change lanes. I was going about 65mph and was at least a good 25 yards behind the truck when the ice fell off.
I was able to brake some but still had to hit the ice head on. This chunck of ice was about has big as a concrete block. I pulled over to check under the MINI and could see where the ice hit. The after market steel skid plate that I installed after I got the MINI took the direct hit. It appears that all is fine. I don't know if the factory plastic plate would have held up with that type of blow.

I've been hitting chunks of snow all winter. I wish people would realize what a hazard this is and kick it off of their wheel wells before they drive off. I get nervous everytime it's happened because I don't have the skid plate. I did just order the power steering fan cover just for the reason of snow/ice chunks.
