R50/53 05 Cooper S repaired.
05 Cooper S repaired.
A little while ago I posted that I couldn’t get the 05 Cooper S to start. Had spark, fuel and cranks like crazy. All I got was an occasional backfire. OBD II indicated cam shaft sensor. Replaced it no change. Pulled the valve cover off and found the gliding surface of the cam shaft tensioner had separated and was jammed in the timing chain area. It evidently got pulled in between the crank shaft sprocket and timing chain and caused the timing to change enough that it wiped out most of the valves.
No way to know why the plastic separated but one silly little piece of plastic cost me 3k in repairs.
