R50/53 trade 02 for an 04?
The 04 is tight. I have experienced only minor rattling on few occasions. I'm not familiar with older models but think the 04 is very solid and I think my wait, though not intensional, was a good thing.
I currently own both a 2002 Cooper and a 2004 MCS. While the Cooper has been incredibly tight for a first year car, the '04 MCS is definetely much more solid and the build quality seems better/polished all around. You can tell a difference between the first year builds and the second year builds which the 2004's fall into.
I have seen this before. take a first year car from any manufacturer and compare side by side with the same exact model 2 years newer...you will see substantial changes and revisions to make it a better product.
The 2004 and on MINIs are definetely the best buys. the cars are much more solid, most of the quirks have been worked out and in all and all the ownership experience is simply better because of reduced unscheduled dealer repair visits.
For current owners of '02 and '03 MINis thinking about going to a '04 or '05 this is the best time to do it. Take advantage of the incredible resale values in these cars!
