Replacement of R53 Intake Manifold Gasket - Parts Needed? ist

Dealer says I need a new gasket on my intake manifold to resolve a lean running condition. Dissuaded by the $900 cost, I've decided to learn a little more about all those parts under the intercooler!

So, what other gaskets and parts should I plan to replace during this process? Car is a 2005 Cooper S with almost 70k on it.

Thx!

Alan

The gaskets for the intake and supercharger are pretty cheap.

Depending on which exact intake gasket is leaking will depend on which ones you need to replace together.

More than one intake manifold gasket?

Way,

Thx for your reply. I believe the dealer was referring to item 6 in the below link from RealOEM:
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...91&hg=11&fg=40

However, it's a fair point that this is only an educated guess as to where the leak is based on the dealer's use of the "smoke test". As buried as the intake manifold is in the R53, I'm guessing that the smoke test isn't terribly accurate in pinpointing where the leak is(?. Or perhaps the dealer is just going on a fishing expedition at my expense... :

A smoke test is a very accurate test, I suggest you go ask them to show you with the diagram or something what exact gasket you need. Intake manifold gaskets rarely leak, but the supercharger inlet gaskets leak all the time. We carry all the gaskets, but don't want you to buy more than you need.
