Thanks to everybody who responded to my earlier question about whether or not a dual mass flywheel is stock in an '03 R50. The place where we are having the clutch installed insists it is and ordered a new flywheel as they can't be resurfaced. The part number they ordered was 11227624121. My question is this: What if they have installed a combination of a dual mass flywheel and a "sprung" (meaning with springs) clutch disc? I'm guessing that this would be wrong and would make the clutch engagement feel very strange- almost to the point of making the car un-driveable as the car would lose a lot of power as the clutch was engaged.

This place was just up the street and hasn't been working on MINIs long. We went there as they were convenient. They became sort of obstinate about the flywheel thing after we questioned them about the whole does it or does it not have a dual mass flywheel, so we just let it go and decided that they will have to tear the car back down if they put it together with the wrong parts.

Speaking of, yes we will be inspecting and photographing the old parts. Any value to keeping the flywheel, especially if it seems in good shape? Someday I'll have to put a clutch in my car as well...
