Key with Remote for 05 S

I just bought an 05 MCS, it had only one key, but the remote does not work...batteries are dead. Where do you get a new remote without going to BMW and getting screwed? Are there any aftermarket remotes?

Thanks,

Batteries are cheap.

My set came with two remote style keys, but most folks have one remote key and one basic mechanical key and then one made of plastic which fits into your wallet which operates door lock and ignition. So having just one remote style key is not uncommon.

Batteries are not replaceable. This is a sealed remote..from what I read..it is recharged when in the ignition slot

Has anybody tried to replace the rechargeable battery in the remote?

It is trickle charged from what I understand, not a NiCad battery set up perse'.

Takes CR2032 battery MINI part no. 66126912985 - but can be had other places as well.

Remove the ring and there is a place to separate the back at the key's loop.

CR2032 is everywhere but it needs a rechargeable? Anyone ever tried just a typical alkaline? If you have an old computer that you never threw away, just take the battery from the motherboard. That should be a CR2032 :P

The 05 has a rechargable battery....
It is recharged when in the ignation....inductive charging.
New keys for an 05 have been on ebay....but good luck getting them cut+coded to your car....but you could transplat the battry from an ebay key....

the key's battery

and what keys you got: one with remote or two

changed over the years

also whether you could program a new key from the car or if it needs a dealer interaction

just in case you were wondering . . .

That doesn't necessarily mean that the battery is dead. See if you can reprogram the remote: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ogramming.html
