Any Fishing on the Dragon?

This will be my first MOTD and I was just wondering if anyone does any fishing while there? I'm thinking about taking an ultralight rig and a few jigs just in case.

There are sevral huge TVA lakes and lots of trout streams. Fly fishing is the method of choice in the streams and big stripers can be caught on the lakes as well as Bass. Very clear water so the fish can see you coming from a long way. You have to be stelthy .....

There is fishing done at the campground at the base of the dam... in 2009, they were reeling in trout from the shore with canned corn as bait.

I've got my 10-day NC fishing license w/ the trout addition and plan to spend some time fishing down there.

You can get a fishing license here: https://www.ncalvin.org/Alvin/defaul...&trid=41&vid=0

Regulations here: Licenses/Permits/Registration/Titling

My very simple take on it: Limit of 7 trout per day - 7 inches or longer.

The visitor license is a 10-day window. I got the 10-day inland fishing license ($10) + the public water trout addition (+$10). I'm not 100% sure if the second part is necessary, but I tend to err on the side of 'safe' vs. 'sorry'. With a public fishing spot down the road, it may be 'public water'.

Very good information. Thanks. I've never done any fly fishing so I will probably just bring an ultralight spinning reel for me and my wife.

From the pic below, you can see that the campground is right down on the water. If the water level is low, I think that there is a pier and boat ramp on the campground road.

I have little to no fishing experience, but a friend on my local MINI board recommended aa smallish hook w/ a salmon egg and a split-shot weight anout 10 inches up from the hook. I got some 'power bait' salmon eggs (fake bait), leaders, hooks, shot and swivels... cant wait to try it out. He mentioned that trout will kiss the bait a few times and that you have to be patient for them to really take the bait before setting the hook.

interesting thought. when were you all thinking of hittin' the water? I may have to see if I can squeeze the rod in with all the beer, brake components, detailing supplies, etc.
