Importing a Mini to Canada

Hi Guys,

I've been a member over on different Volkswagen forums for a while now. Live close by in Kelowna. I shared this information and helped a few people over there so I thought I'd do the same here.

Well, last February I picked up a 2007 VW GTI from the USA. Mint condition, low kms, all the options I wanted and..... $7,000 less than the ones I was looking at in Canada!

After all said and done I paid $19k(this includes taxes, duty, shipping, everything) for more than I wanted and the same or better mileage than the one's I was looking at in Canada (they were all around $26,500+ after taxes)

The process took a while though and was frustrating even when looking online for help. Many people have the problem of wanting to import a car from the USA but not knowing where to start. I decided to solve the problem..

I spent about 2 months making the "Easy Guide to Importing". Breaking down the steps in a one-by-one fashion. If you guys wanna check it out and tell me what you think that'd be much appreciated! Spread the word too if you know anyone who's been looking at doing it.

P.S. The Guide on the website is completely free! There is an option to buy the complete kit (more vid tutorials, tips, secrets, etc) but the guide is offered free to everyone.

Glad you got through it. I also researched this myself 1.5 yrs ago...was trying to import my US VW Eurovan & my Mini Cooper S...both owned for several years.
There is a US Gov. web site that covers all the rules and proceedures.

The ugliest part was trying to get a letter of recall complicance for the Mini...BMW dealers have a policy not to give these out without charging $500+...intent is to protect there Canadian dealers from people buying new in the USA to save $$$. VW had no problem getting me this letter on the spot. BMW asked if I was trying to import to Canada...a white fib got me the letter for $0.

What kind of a fib did you use to get the letter free of charge from BMW?

Just curious if I could use the same little white lie

I stated I was trying to sell the car over the net and the buyer wanted the letter to proceed with the deal
