Turbo Questions

Hey guys and girls, I have a 2008 Clubman S, how do I know if the turbo is working? I remember the old days of hearing the turbo wind up on cars but with this I do not, I want to make sure its ok before it runs out of warranty.

I need schooled on how the whole thing works I guess, thanks everyone.

A turbo works as an air compresser. The exhaust goes thru the turbo spinning a fan blade that is connected to a shaft that is spinning another fan blade that pushes air into the engine. A turbo needs exhust flow in order to make boost presure, there for you have "lag". if your turbo is working as it should then you should feel a slight "lag" when you stomp on the gas and then you should feel it start to pull hard. The turbo is actualy working the hardest when you can't acelerate, like going up a steep hill with your foot to the floor and just holding speed.

The whistle sound is not a good way to tell if it is working or not. Many things can muffel the sound like the air filter housing, and exhaust.

If you have any questions about if it is working or not take it to the dealer and have them look at it.

You can't help but know, if it's not working you'll have no power at all..
