Just got the Timing Chain Replaced - Yay Mini Nashville
Just got the Timing Chain Replaced - Yay Mini Nashville
I gotta give props to Mini Nashville and Corey in particular. I've had on and off rattles on start, had ONE instance of the rattle being pretty obnoxious. I called Mini Nashville, spoke to Corey and brought it in. He worked me into the schedule and they determined yep, it was out of spec, 71 mm.
Got it changed, runs awesome.
And I gotta thank all of you here. If it wasn't for this site, I wouldn't have been paying nearly as much attention to it as I had and probably would have had a sick car being towed to a Mini dealership somewhere between here and Fitzgerald GA
Blue Skies everyone!

Per SIM110207:
They only replaced the tensioner on mine because It was at 67mm I believe. Of course I'm taking it back to the shop in a week because it still rattles.
12. If distance (A) is less than 68mm (and the noise can be reproduced only between 1,600-1,800 rpm), then only replace the chain tensioner with P/N 11 31 7 607 551 (refer to parts list A), as per Repair Instruction REP 11 31 090 (Installing and removing/replacing chain tensioner piston N14).
13. If distance (A) is 68mm or greater (and the noise is reproducible both at 1,600-1,800 rpm range as well as at idle speed when cold), replace the following components in the list below (refer to parts list B). If you are uncertain regarding repair attempts already made, each chain tensioner part number is stamped on the outer sleeve. It must be removed from the engine in order to read the part number.
Chain tensioner-P/N 11 31 7 597 895 only!
Note: P/N 11 31 7 607 551, Timing chain tensioner, should not be installed with a new timing
chain.

Finally! After a year and a half of complaining to the dealership about the engine sounding like a diesel on cold mornings, they are replacing the timing chain.
