2009/10 Navi upgrade to Mini connect?

Does anyone know if the 2009/10 Navigation can be upgraded to the latest mini connected version?

The short answer is no. It would be more like a complete replacement rather than an upgrade. The 2011 system is completely new, both software and hardware. Even the screen is different (higher resolution). The Nav is a new system from a different manufacturer and uses flash memory instead of DVD maps.

Most likely it would be far cheaper to sell your car and buy a new one then to a attempt retrofit (even if it is possible).

Although really anything is possible the cost to benifit ratio on this type of retro fit would cost you more than selling the car and purchasing a newer model.

I personally would be interested in pursuing this should the install be <$1500. This was the case with Mercedes in the W203 platform days. Basically a new head unit was required and some coding to the car if nav was not present before.

In my case, my new (to me) 2010 was $14,000 less than MSRP when new for a ding of 4400 miles on the odo. Well worth it, and even with $1500-2000 in expense retrofitting I'm still ahead. (and JCW didn't change between 2010 2011 other than connected).

Cheers.

Just the display screen is going to cost $1600+ and that does not include any electronics such as the new NAV Section, or any Wiring harness changes, which you can bet are different. There have also been physical changes to the units that would also mean having to change the center console plastics as well.

So although it could be done just the parts will be in excess of $2500 IF you could get them all. Radios and such are items that require "Core" exchange. So most likely you would not be allowed to order it as you would not have a proper "Core" to send back, I.E. one of the same units in a non working condition.

And the car most likely won't even be able to accept a programming change to enable system the vehicle build date is part of the computer and options that come after your build date may not be available (as discovered by fishbert trying to retrofit an HK amp). Still probably cheaper to replace the vehicle.
