R50/53 Possible New Owner
Possible New Owner
Hi all, I found an MC40 that I really would like to get. I think it is a good deal, however what should I look for when checking it out?
It has 85k miles on it, Bone Stock and looks to be in great shape. Seller is asking $8900
Based on KBB and other prices for cars with more miles, it seems like a great deal, however I will be checking it out thoroughly to make sure. I just hesitate buying a car with 85k miles, especially with no previous Mini experience.

Wow- that is very clean. If you can, have a good mechanic who knows Minis check it out. Buying any used car is a gamble but, if its been taken care of by the previous owner it should give you several years of trouble free motoring. As far as the best first generation models, the 05 and 06s are the best ones to look for used. Then again, the MC40's are disirable too... If you can find out about the history, I say go for it.
Welcome to the forum by the way. Hope you stick around. Mini's are one of the most fun cars you can buy for the money. Hate to plug other sites but, good to motoringfile.com and search "used Mini's" and your get a very good summary of what to look for on all years and models. Good luck, hope it works out for you.
Well I checked out the car. It is very clean, there is a wave like dent on the hood, which is the only blemish on it. It also is mechanically very sound.
Unfortunately the commemorative plaque and shift **** decal are missing as well as the #37 door panels. However he does have the original window sticker indeed verifying that it is an MC40.
