Carbon build up problem?

Okay, the kids MCS developed a miss. Into the dealership he goes. Multi cylinder misfire is the diagnosis. They say they need to pull the intake off and clean the valves. At least that's the story now. I know I head they were pulling the head off and cleaning the combustion chamber and top of the pistons. All back together now and they indeed only pulled the intake to clean the valves. Now, cylinder #2 has a misfire and a leakdown test shows 90% compression loss. NOW, they wanna pull the head and reseat the valves. Thinking a piece of carbon has broken loose and lodged itself under the valve keeping it from seating.

Now the kid drives mostly highway miles from VA to RI and down to FL. Not to mention he drives the car like a MINI should be driven. Not hard, but very "spirited". Personally, I think carbon would have a hard time building up in the first place.

This sound like anything anyone else has experienced?
