rim restoration???

i purchased these fairly cheap..obviously they need a bit of restoration. i was wondering if anyone here can give me a general guide on how to restore these. thanks

i was thinking of starting off with sonax full effect. it doesnt appear to be brake dust, looks more like rust. i was gonna take some sand paper to it..see if that will help..any other ideas?

I'll let the detailing ppl answer with some good products.
But what i would do is sandpaper the majority of it off, and if it still looks bad do:
Paint them yourself, if you take ur time and do it right it can look very good.
or Powercoat them, then you basically never have to worry about it again

If that is rust, light sanding will do wonders. I restored a badly oxidized set of webspokes i got for free, took time and muscle but it got done. You might have to re spray the areas(which i would spray the whole wheel if needed).

It looks like caked on brake dust so i would try a good wheel cleaner like sonax first. I started with the oxidation on the shiney out rim part(barrel) With 300, 600, 1500, 2000. On the ineer part of the wheel i used 800, then 1500. They were minor scratches so i did not have to sand much.

If it is caked on deposits , use sonax and let it soak in for 5 min or so to soften it up and then see if you can agitate it with a sponge or soft bristled brush.

Bon Ami does a pretty good job at removing most of this stuff without being too agressive and destroying the clearcoat.
