I'm in the process of selecting guages for my mini, and wonder if anyone knows the operating range(s) of the water temp. and oil preasure? Those who truly read gauges know why a "high noon" reading is best when "in the normal range", and haven't a clue what mini normal is.
Thanks to anyone.

I see around 155 F coolant temp cruising at 80 mph in the wintertime, while in the summer it runs about 180 F. I've seen temps as high as 220 F driving hard in the summer heat, but the fan kicks in at 215 F and cools things down pretty quickly.

As far as oil pressure, I've seen a max of about 60 psi. Pressure at idle goes from about 50 psi when cold to single digits when hot. Normal cruising pressure is somewhere around 35 psi.

Andy,
Have you noticed any pressure drop off during cornering?

I can't say I've looked at my gauges while cornering.

Andy - how about the pressure drop when you are idling facing up a steep hill OR starting out in first gear up a steep hill. The reason I'm asking is b/c my oil light used to go on all the time up hills and at idle once the engine was warm/hot. I think the problem was finally fixed but this morning starting from a standstill on this very steep hill near me, the oil light flashed for a split second. I'm guessing if oil pressure can be in the single digits at idle and a warm car then it could possibly drop into warning range when barely moving up the hill.
