Winter Tires - Snow v All-Season

Hi All,

My apologies, I know this subject has been in a couple of threads, but I didn't see a clear answer. I'm looking for a recommendation on tires for my 03 S. I live in Cincinnati, we get some snow, but not tons. I have Parada Spec 2 on my S right now and I know I need to make a change to something that will be better for the winter. I bought an extra set of wheels on Craigslist (OEM wheels from Mini the exact wheels I have on my car now). I'm trying to decide if I should go with some all seasons or snow tires. I want to say I'll be okay with the all seasons, but the thinker in me is wondering if I need the snow tires. Any advice would be great as I haven't had my car for a winter yet.

Thanks.

No brainer dude - With dedicated wheels go for snow tires in your cold climate - they work better in the wet and cold. My choice would be Bridgestone Blizzaks, that's what I have on my 4wd truck. The MINI stays in the garage when it snows, even with all seasons on it.

+1 I got dedicated winter tires and it is soo much better. I also have the Blizzaks WS60 which I highly recommend. If you use dedicated winter tires then when you need to replace your everyday tires you can get more of a perf tire knowing you won't need them in winter. Double Bonus!

I'd go with dedicated snow tires. All are good, some are better than others. Make your MINI a snow machine!

I concur the dedicated winter tire option but if you don't get much snow in Cincinnati the Blizzaks may be an overkill. Pretty much even the cheapest winter tire will be better than the best all season tire so shop wisely.
Also, since you're more performance oriented, you may look into Performance Winter category that includes Dunlop M3s and others that have stiffer sidewall than your regular winter tire that is intended for deep snow and ice.
