Best mountaint bike rack set up.

Hey Mini lovers.

Who's got the best mountain bike rack set up? Being an avid mountain biker I am looking for different ways to mount a bike on my MCS 07. I know of many different ways ie: top rack with mounts or portable rack that fits on the back. Has anyone put a rack on a towing hitch? Thanks for the ideas?

Dale

The most affordable setup is the minidomore hitch and rack.

You can go back to Mini and get their setup that connects thru the rear bumper. The previous owner of my '08 MCS had it installed. They make two holes in the bumper cover and put in a mounting system. The rack attaches thru those holes, and it is very stable. It's real easy to put on, and it's got locks and good straps. When you take the rack off, you have two plastic grommets to fill the holes on the bumper. I'm guessing it's expensive tho...

Do you already have any top racks for your other vehicles? You can probably buy new "feet" for an existing system to use with the MINI. I use a Yakima rack with a steelhead tray for both my MTB and road bike. It works great and I can take it on/off in about 5 minutes. The MINI is really nice with a top rack system, it's very low compared to other vehicles and it's easy to lift the bikes on/off, even my 28lb EX8!

I have been using roofracks for quite a while on my MINI's but might consider this option for my new one. How tight is access for putting the pin through the receiver? My Thule rack has a screw-in pin that would require enough room for a ratchet.
