Broken window channel! Worst timing EVER!
Broken window channel! Worst timing EVER!
Not sure if this post is to vent or plead for help! I'm heading out on a road trip this thursday with my Mini. From WI to DC and then to Florida for the space shuttle launch. Sweet right? So, I'm getting her ready, oil change, valve adjustment, lube detail yadda yadda. I start to roll up the drivers side window and feel something catch. After fiddling with it for a few minutes, I figure it slipped the track or something. Then I get it apart and realize the front channel is split like Elmer Fudd's shotgun after Bugs stuck his finger in it. Grrrr!
Not a huge deal, except that I don't know if I can find that part in time. (aka tomorrow or Wednesday) Anyone have any suggestions? It's too late at night to get anyone at Moss or wherever. Anyone have spare parts that would be willing to sell? I'm sure
this will all work out tomorrow. but in the mean time
I'm taking a deep breath....

At least it didn't happen 30 miles into your road trip.
Are you talking about the metal channel that attaches to the bottom of the roll-up window glass? A picture would definitely help understand the real problem. If it is said metal channel I would suggest that you find someone with a welder that can weld the 'split' pieces back together, assuming it's just split and not destroyed. That is more difficult than it sounds though, as you would want to remove it from the glass unless you are _very_ careful to not over heat the metal by only spot welding one spot at a time.
You can always lever a vertical piece of wood between the door bottom and the channel with the window up to keep it in place until you can get a proper fix.
Good luck,
Jeff

The window winder channels are the same for both windows so If you know a friend who has a spare door and glass then pop the winder out and lift the glass out then either remove the front right to rear left and rear right to front left...........
