Disk Pads / Rotors and Warranty

Hi There,
A couple of questions about brakes:

1. Are rotors and pads covered in the 4Y / 48K Mile warranty?

2. If not, am I voiding the mini warranty in any way by having the brakes fixed at a good brake shop rather than a mini dealer? Prices for services at my mini dealer in LA scare the #@$% out of me!

Thanks for guidance

Rotors and pads are covered under the 3Y/36K maintenance program, not the warranty.

Having the work performed elsewhere, if you are not covered under that program should not void the warranty unless the work causes an actual issue. IE, if your engine blows up, it shouldn't have any impact. If the dust boot on your caliper is torn, they are going to blame it on the other shop.

actually brakes do fall under warranty - but as a consumable they don't get replaced by warranty just because they wear out. They get replaced under pre-paid maintenance if they wear out during that 3 years of coverage. They'd get replaced under warranty if there was a defect. Warranty and pre-paid maintenance are two different things, not one starting when the other runs out.

Having a not MINI shop work on the brakes will not automatically impact the warranty. MINI brakes are not unusual and any decent shop should have no problem replacing pads and rotors and flushing/bleeding the fluid. If you were to have an issue that might be a warrranty claim down the road, non OEM parts would probably be a factor in claim resolution.

think about doing them yourself if prices are to much to have them done.
There is a good guide on this site and it is not really very difficult.

+1. But make sure you are comfortable doing brakes. It is a critical item.
