MINI/Miata Drive Sunday, Sept 19
MINI/Miata Drive Sunday, Sept 19
MINI/Miata Run: Sunday, September 19
The Miata club has invited us on another of their drive around the local area. They are still working out the details and checking roads, but basically we’re planning to meet (site to be determined) and drive some 2-lane roads we haven't recently driven and visit a local Winery along the way.
We will probably meet around noon Evansville Time, so if you have some time constraints due to church or other commitments please let me know ASAP and I will try to accommodate as many as I can by adjusting the time. We could also meet at noon for lunch and then start the drive after we eat. Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.
September 19 is also "Talk Like A Pirate Day", so we will allow anyone in costume to join the event.
UPDATED:
We will start by meeting at noon Evansville time for lunch at the Culver's Restaurant located between the East Side Lowes and Burkhardt Road in Evansville. If you don't want to join us for lunch, then meet us after lunch at about 12:30 Evansville time in the Culver's parking lot. Culver's offers sandwiches, salads, soups, and full dinner meals. Our drive will take us east on 2-lane highways thru Boonville and over to the Winzerwald Winery, just east of Hwy 145. Winzerwald is a small family owned winery and the primary thing they offer at the winery is tasting. BUT - their wines are pretty good.! After we sample some wine we will travel north on hwy 145, which has some very nice curves, to Birdseye where we will jump off of the highway onto some counrty roads for the trip NW to Jasper. We might stop in Jasper at the DQ for some sweet refreshments before continuing west on hwy 56. At hwy 257 we'll turn sough and navigate those curves down to Hwy 64. At 64 we'll cross over and continue on to Stendall and then thru the country on some fine 2-lane roads with lots of curves and hills that I just recently discovered passing near Holland and then south to hwy 68. Finally we'll travel back to I-69 where many of the group will split off and head for home. Total round-trip from Evansville back to Evansville is about 155 miles.
As always, this will be a fair-weather trip and I'll postpone to another day if the weather looks bad.
If you plan to attend please let me know so I can print route maps for everyone.
Future drives I'm looking at include more Indiana Wineries, Brown County, and the Corvette Museum in Hopkinsville, KY. If you have any suggestions for a drive please let me know. I'm also willing to help anyone that might want to plan their own drive.
