iPod adapter that turns ipod off when car is off
I'm trying to mount a iPod touch in my 05 - but I've hit a snag - there doesn't seem to be much information on which car adapter kits will turn the iPod off when you turn the ignition off. I plan on leaving the iPod in the car, and using coverflow as the interface.
From what I have been able to find out, the Belkin adapters put the iPod into pause mode, which will cause it to turn off after some time. Do any others do something similar?
Any input from those that have a similar setup would be appreciated!

That one works by using the lighter adapter for power and is an FM transmitter rather than a kit. Considering that the lighter socket is not powered when the key is off I would suspect that it will, in fact, pause it.
You really should look into an AUX style kit like the dice or icelink. Much better than using FM.

My bad, there is an iTrip model as well that has an FM tuner...

Well, I got the Autopilot installed and built my own mount -
The Autopilot works fine - it causes the ipod to go into pause mode when I turn off the ignition, then the ipod goes to sleep.
The remaining problem is with configuring the ipod. Apparently the timeout for dimming the display is linked to the same timeout that causes it to go to sleep mode when the ignition is turned off. I can't set it up so that the display in coverflow remains bright AND have it timeout and go to sleep at ignition off.
Might have to jailbreak it, or write an app that does it.
Otherwise, this works pretty well. I can use coverflow to get at my whole mp3 collection, and it all plays through the aux input in the mini. I have access to the mode button on the radio to select AM/FM if I want to listen to the radio, and use the steering wheel controls to seek presets. I don't mind having the CD slot blocked off, as my ipod contains all my music.
I hid the Autopilot up under the center console and wired it into the cigarette lighter so I still have that plug available for things like portable nav systems. Overall, with my HK stereo, the ipod sounds great.
