Sirius Issue

Here's my story - bought a 2004 MC in January, it had Sirius (built in to HK) activated and worked perfectly. The first part of June I lost service (subscription had expired), I bought a year of service - music only. Tried for over a week to activate it and nothing, the last young lady I talked to I think changed my program to premium (I have since read that the Mini Sirius receiver will only work with the premium service) Everything worked fine for two or three weeks, then I started to lose signal not just under an overpass but out in the middle of nowhere and at times it will be in "acquiring" mode for maybe five minutes at a time. It is now at the point I'm probably in the drop signal situation 50% of the time. A couple times today after the signal was acquired my preset changed ? I have an option to take it to a local audio shop and they said that for $30.00/$40.00 they would pull the Sirius unit and plug a different antenna into it to see if that might me the problem. My other option is the dealer 225 miles away. Any suggestions?

I don't know where the 'built-in' antenna is located, but have one suggestion.

Consider borrowing or buying (<$20?) an external antenna and testing with that. I have the small disc antenna sitting on the dash and that provides a stable signal.
