aux question and charging of iphone
are ya'll having an issue of using AUX, but it turns off when you're charing your Iphone/ipod?
it happens to be.. but then again, I did ghetto rig my aux
lol I did the cheap Aux (cost me $5), but it works fine! just cna't use it and charge phone at the same time...
does it do that with the normal Aux cable users?

What are you using to charge the phone with?
My iPod connector to usb won't charge the phone at all. I have a charger that plugs into the cigarette lighter with 2 USB ports (but my iPhone will only charge if it's the only thing plugged in). I don't use it for music though...

Are you using a minijack or Ipod/Iphone cable?
is it a 3GS or iphone 4 or newest generation Ipod?
the issue with older cables (12v) and the newer units (5v) has to do with the original ipods were firewire based and new ones are now USB so the charge voltage was lowered. New units will not charge on old cables due to the difference
I have 3 ipod capable cars all old ipods and my original iphone work great. My kids newer Nanos will play but will not charge.
In the mini I have the Aux port in the glove box and use an aftermarket charger to juice the ipod when its playing. There is no unit control but it works and I have long playlists.

I am having the same problem with my nano (and my Droid for that matter). I plug them in to my aux port and the play just fine. But as soon as i try to charge them they will start charging but my HU wont even give me the aux option. As soon as i stop charging the aux will play again.
I saw something similar on a Scion Tc website, a guy wired a capacitor (not sure what size) to the aux before it went to the HU and then it would charge and play at the same time. Would this work for me? If so what size capacitor would i need?

Found it, you need a "ground loop isolator" amazon has the for 10 or 15 bucks. thats what we get for ghetto rigging i suppose, but it is still cheaper than the OEM solution
Basically all it does is remove the DC current from the charger that runs through the audio so the radio doesnt turn of from power overload. The OEM cable has a capacitor (it may be a resistor) that removes the current from the charger.
