Buying an 03 Mini Cooper S. What do I look for?

Hey Everyone,

After doing my research, I have found a few TSBs regarding cooling fans, the clutch/tranny in the manuals and a few other things.

When test driving this car, what should I look for?

I just drove an 04 MCS and it had what I believe was the throwout bearing going bad. I could feel it "grinding" while engaging and disengaging the clutch and it was pretty rough. So, I passed on that one. Now, I am going to look at another one. Can you help me out please?

It is gray with the 6 speed manual and 96K miles.

Thanks so much!

Water in Battery Compartment of '05 Mini S

My '05 Mini S with sunroof is currently at the dealer with water in the battery box issues. It was discovered when I went to replace my original battery with only 28,300 miles on it. Yes, I have to replace the BST cables (trunk to front bay) and the fuse box located in the battery box. It is expensive. My car is in the process of having the electrical system repaired and then the dealer will look for the cause of the leak. I will include the battery box check as a regular part of my monthly inspection. A number of NAM members have stated that they have had the same problem with water in the battery box. Seems that there might be more than one cause . Review NAM March '09 water in battery box discussion
