Gas Mileage after putting on a Cold Air Intake System

About 2 1/2 months ago I purchased a used 2003 Mini Cooper Base model with 17,147 miles on it and with my first mileage check driving home on a interstate I got 37.25 mileage to the gallon. In town running around with a little highway driving I got 27 to 28. I wanted a little more pickup so I put on a DDM Cold Air Intake system and the power seems to go up nicely and the sound really improved but the best mileage on the open road has dropped to 33 to 34 miles per gallon. Last night I drove 86 miles a little around town and some interstate and when I filled up it showed 29 1/2 miles per gallon and I did not punch it at all. Is this normal results for other Mini Cooper owners after adding a cold air intake system?

Thanks

Just a thought...2 1/2 months ago...you probably were not running a/c. The a/c pulls down the engine rather hard...reducing mpg.
