Powerflex c/a bushings went in today
I ordered some Powerflex bushings from allminiparts.com b/c they had them cheaper than anyone else. $56 for the c/a bushings! Anyway, I installed them today and did it by removing the control arms. Each side had one ball joint that had to be beaten off. 5lb hammer, crowbars, and long bars worked. I followed the instructions from Auto X Cooper website. I cut the outer oem ring with a sawzall and air chiseled it out. Installing the outer bushing section was a little bit of a pain b/c it was hard to evenly press the bushing in. I had to start one side and then pry the other side in.(like the video explains). Once you press it half way in, you can use a rubber mallet to beat it all the way in. Installing the arm is easy but getting it on the inside ball joint is tedious. The big section of the bushing(purple) doesn't want to seat all the way when trying to get the first ball joint stud on the control arm. I'd suggest putting the c/a on the inside balljoint first and then putting it on the outer joint. Anyway, it drives nice and has eliminated the shimmer in the steering and I can't tell any difference in harshness. Too bad it was raining b/c I can't take any turns hard!! This was all done in my driveway on jackstands. One hour each to beat the frozen ball joints off, one hour to cobble a press tool, half hour each to press the outer c/a bushing on, half hour each to fight the c/a arm on the inside ball joint stud, half hour to keep finding the tools I just used that miraculously disappear!! I have 62k miles and my passengers c/a bushing was shot.
