Drying with 'Water Blades'?

Does anyone use these 'water blade' things to dry their car?

I happened across one in walmart and was wondering if it was worth the $15?

Do these work? I'm always getting water spots when I dry my car (sponge, microfiber, terry cloth, i've tried a couple things)!

Anyways. Share your thoughts on drying with water blades. Do they work better than other ways of drying? What brands are best? Etc.

Thanks!

I have been using the California Water Blade for a couple of years and find it works great. I still use a microfiber waffle weave drying towel for what the blade misses but it saves on the amount of towels I use.

If you are Washing/Drying in Direct Sunlight nothing is going to stop the Water Spots. Wash in the Shade, once you're done washing pull the car into a garage to finish drying it.

Forgot to add that Prima Hydro or Griot's Garage Spray-on Wax with a Waffle Weave MF Towel will keep your car looking New!!

I've used Water Sprite's for the past 25+ years. If you buy the Water Sprite plus you can split it and have one for the door jams, trim, wheels, etc and one for the main car. Go to:

www.raglady.com/detail.jsp?item=WSPRITE&category=124

I highly recommend them. I've also stumbled on them in NAPA Auto Parts Stores.

Hi kenchan
that's because you probably didn't wash the towel the first time. you have to wash it dry it to break it in first.

Sweetness! I miss my G :(

No I didn't wash and dry my waffle first. Maybe that's why it didn't work so well.

Just remember a Free Detergent, no Dryer Sheet, you can hang to dry or just throw them in the Garage like I do.

Also, one of the best things I've learned is to take the nozzle off the hose for a final rinse and sheet the water off top to bottom. Spritz with Hydro, dry with waffle weave and

I cannot wash my car in the shade and we have hard water so I wash the car in the morning and I use a California Water Blade to get most of the water off the car quickly. I then use a towel to completely dry the car.

yah, the G is a timeless car.

yah, so far all MF towels ive dealt with work better after being washed once. plus it gets rid of the initial lint they sometimes have on the longer threaded MF towels.

Ken...your garage is just to clean and organized, ours was pre-bought with Plywood/2x4 Shelving, I've got 2/5 of a wall for my Detailing Supplies, Hubby has the other 3/5 for his Toys. And my Driveway is so steep that I can't have anything on wheels.

BTW...Nice pic. of the "old" MINI!!

Costco has the cr spotless water filter. I got one and I love it. No need to use anything to dry the car. Spot free without touching the car.

thanks, RJ!

irontree- yah, i know wat you mean.

actually my water is pretty soft and i too rarely need to 'wipe down' the car at all when i wash. i just use my blower and blow most of it off and then the very little droplets that are left i just blot dry with the waffle weave.

for dd's i dont care i just wipe down using Hydro at the very end (no blot dry) and it works great.

I use a water blade. HOWEVER - you have to know that your car is PERFECTLY clean and rinsed or you will drag microscopic dirt particles across it and cause swirls/scratches. I use it mostly on the glass, but if I'm trying to dry in a hurry, or low on waffle weaves, then I will do the paint also.

I usually just use it on the glass before drying the rest.... ive got the sunroof so there goes most of the water lol.... and the water that rolls off with the blade usually takes more and more water with it on the way down, so then there isnt much left to dry!

I used it on my other car all the time... works well, just dont go runnng it over too dry of paint surfaces. I would also do a pass, then wipe, wipe on the side of my shorts/jeans to make sure to clean it off

If I am in a hurry I like the water blade, but as you know it has to be CLEAN or you will end up with pin stripes.
