I am looking at an 02 Mini with a cvt with 142000 mi. I drove it and

it runs and drives great, I am concerned about the cvt issue with

these cars. Anyone have any incite on this purchase ?? The price is

5500.00. It is in great condition.

With the high mileage it makes one wonder if it still has the original transmission in it. I think as part of having it inspected prior to purchase, I would try to find the answer to this question.

If the CVT has been replaced recently, you could get years of trouble-free service out of it. If it's the original tranny, you're probably looking at a not-to-distant repair bill that will exceed the cost of the car by several $K.

To buy an '02 I would really need to see the maintenance history. There are components that are likely to be wearing out due simply to their age (e.g., EHPS Pump, bushings, seals, etc.). If the previous owner(s) already had these issues and successfully addressed them, I'd have a lot more confidence that my $5,500 was well spent.

 

CVT, 142K miles, ??? If it's original tranny you are rolling the dice.

 

Thank You for the input. I was curious what the life span of the cvt was. I have done alot of reading in NAM and have read nothing good about the trans.
