Drivetrain Exhaust header gasket direction and torque specs???
Exhaust header gasket direction and torque specs???
I've searched and read all how-to's that I can find and I cannot find out which way the header gasket is supposed to go back on. I stuck the old one back on mine arbitrarily and I have a leak, but it had remnantos of old gasket sealer on it as well. I have a new OEM gasket, and want to be sure I put the new one on the right way. I see there is an indent for the runner holes that faces ones direction, which way does it go? Also, what the heck is the torque spec for the header bolts? I can't find that anywhere either, I'm surprised the how-to doesn't have that info.
Thanks for all the help
Thanks for all the help
The part of the gasket closest to the runners definitely faces one direction. It bumps in on one side and out on the other. I was afraid that I put the old one on wrong in the first place, but the gasket was quite warn with residue left on the face of the manifold. I'll clean up the head better and try to figure out which way the indent faces. I did the old one to 24 ft/lb =o based on other vehicles. Hope that didn't hurt it.
