Should I buy a 2007 Mini Cooper S?

Hello, I have the chance to buy a 2007 Cooper S with 18,000miles. After scanning these boards I noticed a alot of issues with the HPFP, is it pretty much a given that I will be replacing the high pressure fuel pump multiple times? The warranty is only good until march, 2011 and I don't want to buy something that will be a money pit.

Are there any people here with higher mileage Minis that haven't had these sorts of failures? THanks.

hahaha... money pit indeed. i have a steady paycheck but not steady enough to keep on "fixing" my cooper... ive picked myself up a lemon. Of course, there is always a chance in any model of car to get a lemon... but Mini seems to hold the record. i have a 05 civic with 100500 miles on it, NO maintenence. and a 09 mazda 6 49000 miles with NO maintenence. i got my 04 cooper s at 46000 miles and had problems just days after being driven home for the first time... im sitting at 86000 miles and have done more work on that car than any lawn mower, weed eater, motorcycle, boat, or go-cart all put together.

you could get an extended warranty on it pretty easily if you're worried about it breaking down. 18,000 miles is pretty low for an 07 so i would be jumping all over it if it's at a good price.

They are fun cars, but definitely "High Maintenance". Most of the stuff is little, and not horrible to work on if you like fiddling yourself. Some of the problems are more expensive. You could get an extended warranty or roll the dice. Most insurance companies don't lose money, so most likely, you will not incur more costs then the cost of the warranty, but then you might be that "lucky" one that does.

I have an 05 Cabrio, only 22K miles. I've had the door handles repaired, the cup holder repaired, my motor mounts replaced, and I'm on my second set of run flat tires (about to replace with regular Michellins). If it wasn't so darn fun and cute, it would be out the door. But it's like a bad puppy, you want to stay mad at for peein on the floor, but you just can't stay mad. LOL.

If you want reliable, stick with a Civic or a Jetta. Minis are different in both good and bad ways. ;-)
