Help! trouble removing wheels

Hey guys,

I tried taking off my wheels yesterday for a little wheel well detail and failed miserably.

4 bolts came off no problem. The wheel just would not budge off the hub. Any tips for removal?

If these are OEM wheels, remove the center cap and spray some Liquid Wrench, PB Blaster, or your favorite nut/bolt remover spray, and spray some in between the center of the hub and the wheel. Then look at the inside of the wheel where it meets the hub. There should be some (4 depending on the wheel) holes where you can spray the liquid into and let it set and work it's way in. After it's sat for a while see if you can remove the wheel. You may need to take a rubber mallet to the backside of the rim or to the front side hub area to help loosen things up.

yes to the above . . .

once the car/wheel is jacked off the ground don't be afraid to git on ur butt and kick the heck out of it....

The problem is our "hub centric" wheels which have a ring that fits tightly around the hub's ring. Once you get it apart you'll see what I'm talking about and then go to the auto part store and ask them for a tube of anti-seize .... b4 you put things back together, clean the rust off the rusted surfaces (!!) and coat them with a very THIN film of this grease. Then put everything back together normally.

Next time apart will be MUCH easier.

Yup...sit on your butt, then kick with both legs.... Then make sure the surface is clean and smooth before reinstalling...a little bit of anti-seize goes a long way too...I use a dab every time a swap my wheels...the first time was a pain...now, no problem. But like I said...CLEAN the mating surfaces throughly before you re-assemble....any of the rust/corrosin that is keeping the rim in place, may cause the rim to go on crooked....and may vibrate a bit.

bang on the tire with a dead weight hammer so that it vibrates the wheel off. afterwards clean up the inside of the wheel and the hub because they probably have rust on them.

I have had to use a 6 foot 2x4 and hit from the other side ...
anti-seize is your friend

I also use the kick method and it works. But only with one foot.
