One-ball Mod makes your car sound like a Civic?

My friend and fellow cooper owner who shall remain unnamed, told me after we stopped cruising that under load he thought my one-ball sounded tinny and kind of like a riced out civic... so I asked him to take it so i could listen to it. I thought it sounded great an earful of supercharger followed by deeper exhaust note. I guess my question is has anyone else every heard of the one-ball or any othe Cooper S exhausts that sound ricey? I was sure this was impossible in a car as cool as the MINI

Nah, some people take the whole ricey thing to an extreme. There are a lot of people who just hate and really don't have a clue as to what they are talking about. To be honest, the one ball mod doesn't really affect the sound much anyway. It changes it, but not in a bad way. I wouldn't worry about it if I were you.

The one-ball does not sound ricey at all...

It sounds great when combined with a header.

Mine sounds really bad, only when the exhaust is cold and has not warmed up (1-2 min of driving) and has a really nasty tinny rasp sound around 3100rpm that sounds like a straight pipe d16 civic.

After that 1 min warm up it sounds great, no rasp at all.

haha thanks guys, I think he was just trying to justify spending $900 on an exhaust when he could have a header/oneball for $180 or so and put his money toward other mods and his car not perform any worse than a cat-back. The cat-backs do sound way cool though!!

No.

One-ball exhaust = stock exhaust with resonator removed.

I have a ricey mini with busted up manifold at the moment.

I think my ears are bleeding from driving it around for a few days too

It's down to this.
Invidia catback or one-ball + OBX header.
However, if I do the one ball, I also want to delete the post-cat silencer and replace the center pipe with a stainless steel 2.5" pipe rather than the stock 2.25". Probably keep stock muffler and tailpipes.

What do you think?

There's no such thing as a "post cat silencer" on the stock exhaust.

There's only pre-cat and cat (in the stock header) and the rear resonator (right side) and muffler (left side).

I doubt there's any real benefit to replacing the center pipe. But it's your money. :-)

Really? I was just under the car and there looks like there is a resonator/silencer where the exhaust manifold ends and catback begins.

I have a one-ball, and it does have a bit of a rasp when cold, but once it's warmed up a bit, it's golden. I'm hoping to add a Militek or RMW header sometime, probably at the same time that I get a new head and rebuild the supercharger, and hopefully that'll make it sound a bit deeper and "meaner".

Hmm. It's part of the center pipe though - not the manifold. I thought it was called a silencer. Maybe it is the cat.

R53 Speed. Did you buy your car new? If not, maybe that's not the stock exhaust on there ... just a thought.
