Removing paint from mini wheels.

I've finally found the mini I want and can afford, a 2005 S model. It's Brittish green with white top, stripes and ugh...white wheels. I don't care for the white spoked wheels and I'm thinking of stripping the paint off of them. I'm assuming the wheels are aluminum? I've taken paint off of motorcycle wheels in the past using a special paint removing made for airplanes and was wondering if anyone has tried this on Mini wheels. Depending on what the wheels look like with the paint removed, I'll either polish and clear coat, or re-paint silver and clear coat. Any advice would be appreciated.

Just a thought, but check the marketplace or the local Mini chapter to see if anyone would just trade you for their stock silver wheels and save yourself a bunch of hassle...
