Koni Yellow adjustment settings?

This coming weekend will be my first autocross on the new Koni's. I plan on setting them to the hardest setting all-around and then adjust the fronts down until I find the spot right for me. I like the rear to step out a bit.

Anyone else using the Koni yellows care to share their settings? I'm just curious as to what y'all might have them set at so I know what to expect.

Not trying to thread-jack, but are you the same L8Apex over at Turbobricks?

I would think you'd at least want the fronts a little compliant so you can get a little weight transfer and a little more grip.

I've never tuned the suspension on a road car before, but the process on the Koni website seems logical to me. The only problem is getting enough laps to get it dialed in, which I don't know how likely that is at a regular AutoX event. It'd be sweet if autoX groups had Test-n-tune nights like the drag strips do.

Nope, not me on that site.

We get 6 runs per event, if we're not too pressed for time. I know my car well enough to notice any slight changes in it, so I might be able to get it dialed in in one event maybe two. And we've got a school event coming up so I'll have plenty of time there to get it dialed in; might make it a "this is how you tune your suspension" session.

I was just hoping someone on here would share the settings they're comfortable with.

My track set up is 1 click or so from full soft up front and 1 click under full stiff on the rears. The rears are kind of a PITA to adjust, so I leave them at almost full stiff and tune with the front. I would think this would apply to auto-x because you would want to be able to rotate the car a bit. The rear is fairly loose with this setup. I also run a Hsport rear sway bar and springs, FWIW.

Rear shocks 1/4 turn off full stiff, set them and forget them. Front shocks 1/2 a turn off full stiff. I am running a smaller front sway bar and use the extra stiffness for better transitional response. Corner exit grip is very good with this setup and the factory LSD.

What do you mean by "clicks"? A full turn? There is no clicking with mine, just constant smooth turning.

That's about what I thought I'd have mine set to.

Thanks for the tips everyone. Does anyone drive on the street with their settings? or change back to softer settings asap?

Konis don't have clicks, at least mine never did, and they were koni sport yellows.

With konis you just turn them, I usually used 1/4 turn increments. Use the little white cap they gave you. Keep it in the glove box. I always started at soft and turned a number of turns (ie. 1.25 turns) etc.

(my konis from other cars were all adjusted from the top)

Do you have single adjustables or double adjustables? Single adjustables won't have the clicks that others are talking about from what I understand. The double adjustables have one setting you can "click" through.

I keep my rears a qtr turn off full stiff, and two clicks off full stiff. My fronts I keep 1/2 turn off full stiff, and two clicks off of full soft.

I thought I'd chime in here since I have a '07 MCS as well...

From experience, if you have off-the-shelf single-adjustable koni yellows, I would recommend you set the rears to full-soft, or close to it. From there, you can play around with the fronts (near full-stiff). I can't say whether the JCW's the same or not...

FYI, I'm not the only one with the R56 that's had to do this. If you have the rears full stiff, be ready to be looking backwards multiple times

Yea, I have the single adjustable Konis. Our event this past weekend was at an old car lot and it was bumpy as hell. I had a few spectacular spins. Just about every FWD car had a spin though. We don't have any more events at that particular site, but our next few are at a rough spot. So I'll try either full soft or medium settings next time.

Well. Ironic that I made it through all of last year with no issues running full stiff rears, and then I post, and the first event of this year turns into a spin-fest. The site we were at had off camber sweepers, and apparently that coupled with a stiff rear causes some dramatic snap-oversteer spins.

Probably going to soften the rears up, and see what it's like (such a pain to change the rears )

I leave the settings alone and don't change them back.
