R50/53 Manual Transmission Fluid Change MCS 2005
Manual Transmission Fluid Change MCS 2005
Hi All,
I changed my transmission fluid today in my wife's 2005 MCS. The vehicle has 52,000 miles on it and runs well but I noticed that the shifting got very notchy when it gets warm outside. My Mini Dealership suggested that it may be low on manual transmission fluid so I figured that I should just go and change it. I decided on Redline MTL. It was a very easy job and the old fluid was very clean. I was very surprised how clean it was and no metal flakes. My only question is that after getting it all back together (it runs fine) I thought about the so called magnet that should have been on the drain plug. I didn't see one. Does anyone know if the plug itself is a magnet or is the magnet an extra piece that is missing?
Thanks in advance.... Best regards

The plug itself is not magnetic (as far as I know), but you can get magnetic ones (Mr. Dimple). There is a magnet in the transmission (at the bottom I think). KHuevo has a picture here.
