Cvt to 5/6 speed swap.
Cvt to 5/6 speed swap.
Can it be done? Has it already been done? Any how to's or build links? How different are the wiring harnesses? approximate cost ? Any insight would be awesome.
Thanks

It has been done...to a 6 speed. There is a thread...maybe even a diy with pictures. I think the one problem is the loss of cruise control...other than that it was a sucess...the install was quite involved....cost some $$, but I think it was marginally cheaper than a new cvt.
I'll search for it later...but just thinking it might have been a 5 speed midlands out, a 6 speed in....I'll try to re-edit this again...just do a search.....I'm on an I-thinggy, and cut/paste and search is a pain!!

This is the thread I was thinking of....for a CVT swap...you would likely do better getting a rear-ended R50 wreck, and doing a full drive-train swap...computers and all!!
Sorry If I got your hopes up prematurely.
It has been done......

Murphy’s law! I also found only one source for shifter cables that wasn’t from a MINI dealer- Detroit Tuned. They were somewhat cheaper, but maybe a resourceful person could do even better. I should also note that the slave cylinders are, in my humble opinion, not worth the plastic from which they are formed. I used a cast iron one from a late 80’s S-10 Chevy pickup/Blazer. Got it at Autozone. Cheap and durable. You'll have to make up your own hydraulic line. Not difficult or pricey. [/FONT]
One (?) more thing: If you elect to go with a 5-speed, you'll also have to buy a new starter, as the 5-speed flywheel is a smaller diameter than the CVT/6-speed. Okay, questions?
